Vasti

Art Teacher

I was fortunate to grow up in a home were art was part of everyday living, my mother as an artist and sister as a graphic designer. Matriculated at Pro Arte (school for music, ballet, drama and art) and completed my fine arts degree at the university of Pretoria, with painting and print making as subjects. After my studies, I lectured at the Tshwane University of Technology, for 10 years and taught thousands of students the art of drawing. Part of my responsibilities during my lecturing years were the yearly art exhibition of students. I have participated in a number of private exhibitions as well as commissioned paintings for various client’s. I describe myself as an industrial artist since I can work with many different mediums such as mosaic, various metals, tiles, water colour paint, ink, oil and acrylic paint and specialized decorative faux painting to name but a few.

WHAT OTHER STUDENTS SAY

Potter’s Place – a creative haven where even the less talented can flourish and enjoy art. Teacher Evette guides your inner artist to plan, shape and form until something beautiful is created. Clay is a forgiving medium with magical properties that inspire the creation of pieces of beauty, practicallity and sometimes, just pure fun and enjoyment.

For years I dreamt of joining a ceramic class, but it wasn’t until a friend discovered The Potters Place Studio and invited me with, that I had the courage to enter the creative world of pottery. Now, more than a decade later, I can’t imagine my week without it. It turned out to be so much more than an art class, it is therapeutic, creates balance and opens the door to wonderful new friendships. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and the teachers, Evette, Martie and Marilise, most talented and encouraging. They know how to customise their approach in order to cater to each person's needs and help them reach their own creative style and potential. It is thrilling to learn, create art and get lost in the moment in a relaxing, social space surrounded by great people. I would highly recommend these classes to anyone looking to learn something new, meet interesting and inspiring new people or for those already experienced in ceramics and want to take it to the next level.

The Potter’s Place is so much more than just a fully-equipped ceramic studio. I’ve been attending their classes and workshops for many years, and it remains a highlight of my week. Not only does one get the opportunity to create and build with clay, but also to shape colourful, lasting friendships among the great group of students and teachers at the studio.
